Celebrating the area’s connections with Banjo Patterson, the relocation of the cottage to the Orange Botanic Gardens precinct provides a tangible link to the poet’s life more than 150 years ago.
As part of a local conservation movement, the cottage was relocated to this site when its original farming property location was to make way for new housing developments. Planned for demolition, the cottage was restored by community groups and opened in February 2014.
The cottage garden landscape setting surrounding the cottage, provides an important link with the domestic life and times of the 1850s with edged vegetable, herb and seasonal plantings. The planting provides great seasonal diversity and important historic curtilage.
