The Coonamble Visitor Information and Exhibition Centre (VIC) was completed in June 2021. Working in collaboration with PW Studio, sala4D was commissioned to prepare the detail design package for tender.
Located along Castlereagh Street, opposite Coonamble’s painted water tower, the Information and Exhibition Centre was designed with inspiration from the Emu foot. The Emu is the totem of the Aboriginal communities of the region, the Wailwan and Kamilaroi, with stories of the Milky Way being an Emu that changes over time. The landscape anchors the building within an iconic setting on the riverbanks of the Castelreagh.
This project followed a series of the masterplans developed for Coonamble, Gulargambone and Quambone, which also included a tourism and branding review.
These masterplans provide a blueprint for investment and intervention into the NSW regional township to firmly establish Coonamble as a tourist destination.
The AILA jury in their award citations stated that these outcomes are “sensitive and well considered and was impressed by how the unique character and sense of place was developed through a process steeped in effective and genuine community consultation enabling deep connections to be explored and building a true sense of community ownership.”
