The Intertidal Terraces were implemented as part of the enabling works for Phase 3 of Wandsworth Riverside Quarter development.
The terraces are constructed at the confluence of the Thames and River Wandle building upon the aspirations of the Environment Agency. This unique position allows sinuous intertidal terraces to create a rich ecological habitat which will provide a valuable fish spawning site, in particular smelt. Installation of ecological refuges for Sand Martins, Kingfishers, Bumble Bees and the like including deadwood habitat from site felled trees offers enhanced terrestrial diversity opportunities.
The terraces have been listed in ‘Enhancing the Environment: 20 Case Studies in London’ (Environment Agency, 2001) as an exemplar environmental regeneration scheme along the Thames.
