sala4D was commissioned in January 2022 to carry out a Wayfinding Strategy for Lake Forbes. The requirement for a Wayfinding Signage Strategy was highlighted in the Lake Forbes Activation Masterplan, adopted in December 2019, also completed by sala4D.
Detail design and documentation of the wayfinding system has been developed as part of the commission, including manufacture of a prototype.
As part of the strategy, clear and legible mapping has been developed, which can be utilised by Council across other platforms including visitor guides, cycling guides, art and heritage trails.
Signage typologies have also been developed which include the following family of signs: pylon, finger, destination marker, interpretation sign; and picture frame. Placement Plans and a signage schedule showing the location of these have been developed to support the strategy, with a key principle being to ensure the lake stays clutter-free.
Component materiality has been carefully considered, with a hardwood timber option selected to best suit the environmental setting.
